*Madlen
Batchvarova is a dynamic conductor, pianist, singer, music educator, clinician
and adjudicator. Currently she serves as Professor of Music, Director of Choral
Programs at Hanover College, Indiana where she conducts choral ensembles,
teaches conducting, private voice, and music history. Born in Sofia, Bulgaria,
Madlen Batchvarova holds a BM and MM from the Academy of Music and Dance Art in
Plovdiv, Bulgaria, a MM from Georgia State University,
and
a DMA degree from the University of Alabama.
Professor
Doctor Batchvarova has performed, toured, and recorded with the Atlanta
Symphony Orchestra Chorus, and Chamber Chorus under the direction of Maestro
Robert Shaw. Some highlights of her participation with the ensemble include a
GRAMMY Award, Carnegie Hall concerts and participation at the Opening
Ceremonies of the Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta.
In
addition to her demanding teaching and performing schedule Dr. Batchvarova
maintains an active international career. In July 2009 Madlen Batchvarova made
her conducting debut at the prestigious Musikverein Golden Hall, the home of Vienna
Philharmonic as part of the International Haydn Festival celebrating the
creative output of the Viennese Classic.
Her
accomplishments include conducting appearances, workshops, scholarly
presentations and publications at the University of Coimbra, Portugal,
University of Granada, Spain, Academy for Music, Dance, and Fine Arts in
Plovdiv, and the Thracian University in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria.
Dr.
Batchvarova is a regular presenter of interest and reading sessions at the
state and division conventions of the American Choral Directors Association. She
also serves as a historical/performance practice of Bulgarian/Russian music
consultant for choirs and other musical organizations around the country. In
collaboration with the organist David Lamb, Batchvarova released a piano-organ
duet CD, “Duetti Capricciosi,” found on Amazon.com
Madlen
Batchvarova is in demand as a guest clinician and conductor. She has conducted festival, honor and
all-state choirs in Austria, Bulgaria, Georgia, Alabama, Indiana, and
Pennsylvania. Dr. Batchvarova is also active as an adjudicator for regional and
state solo and choral competitions. She was a member of the jury at the
International Choral Festival in Preveza, Greece, and the student Conductor’s
Competition at the 2007 American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) National
Convention.
Dr.
Batchvarova is a voting member of the National Academy for Recording Arts and
Sciences (votes for the GRAMMY Awards), the American Choral Directors
Association’s Central Division executive board as the Ethnic and Multicultural Perspectives Chair, Music Educators National Conference
(MENC), American Guild of Organists, College Music Society, and the Pi Kappa
Lambda Music Honor Society.
